The Nintendo Switch eShop chart has been released for July 23, and the results are a bit surprising. Many third-party titles have climbed their way to the top, and some older Nintendo Switch titles. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle managed to take the top spot, which is shocking, even with the sequel coming out later this year. Nintendo Switch Sports at number two is to be expected as it’s a title that will sell units, period, especially given how popular its predecessor was. It’s the perfect family/party game. Minecraft comes in at number three, Portal Companion Collection comes in at number four, and Stardew Valley rounds out the top five.
Switch eShop Chart for July 23: The Rest of the Bunch
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to be a blockbuster seller, placing sixth. This is significant as one of Nintendo’s central strategies under president Shuntaro Furukawa is to encourage sales of older, evergreen titles, and this strategy seems to be working. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came out shortly after the Switch launch and is still selling like hotcakes, even before the announcement of the DLC courses. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is 11th on the list, Animal Crossing: New Horizons 13th and Breath of the Wild is 24th. All of these games are over two years old. Nintendo is following through on one of its central strategies, which can be attributed to its success in this generation.

It will be interesting to see how Xenoblade Chronicles 3 places next week, as it’s one of Nintendo’s most anticipated games of the year. It’s already at 14th, but there’s no doubt it will at least climb the top 10, if not the top five.
