It has been more than one year since Nintendo announced they are working on Breath of the Wild 2. The last thing we know is that the voice actors have done all recordings for the game back in July. Although today out-of-nowhere they revealed a Breath of the Wild prequel, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Nintendo admits they still don’t have anything to show for the sequel. The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma said the following in the Age of Calamity video announcement:
Still, Aonuma is thankful that many people around the world are still playing Breath of the Wild. And while he can’t tell us anything more about Breath of the Wild 2 for now, he is hoping this prequel would tide us over in the meantime.
Hyrule Warriors producer Yosuke Hayashi added that the Age of Calamity should be a worthy addition to the main Zelda series; from its story to gameplay elements. Since, unlike the first game, this time around Koei Tecmo has worked closely with The Legend of Zelda team. Plus both Hayashi and Aonuma think that the previously-unexplored Great Calamity warring period would complement well with Dynasty Warriors-style hack-and-slash gameplay.
