Nintendo launched its latest in their family of handhelds, the Nintendo 3DS. The portable system became available last night at midnight, and was celebrated at Best Buy in New York City. Reggie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo of America, was present to hand out the first of the devices as an eager crowd braved the chilling temperatures of the night. This marks Nintendo’s biggest launch since 2006, when they launched its Nintendo Wii console.
Many expect the Nintendo 3DS to be available scarcely throughout 2011, with Nintendo curtailing the supply of the device in similar fashion to what they did with the Wii. The console which debuted at $250 is available in Cosmos Black and Aqua Blue, these bundles include a free charging dock, a 2GB SD card, and a couple of free games: Face Raiders, and AR games.
The Nintendo 3DS ushers in a new era of glasses free 3D viewing on the device, with the ability to turn on or off the capability. While the 3DS launch lineup of first party titles is underwhelming, including the likes of Pilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, and Nintendogs + Cats, the third party support for the device at launch is overwhelming.
