The iconic Nicolas Cage will be taking on the role of Dracula in the upcoming movie ‘Renfield.’ Cage talked to Variety about his new role and how his take on the infamous Dracula will be “Something new.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cage’s vampire movie will begin production in early 2022.

‘Renfield’ doesn’t put its focus completely on Dracula but rather one of his henchmen (Renfield of course). Nicolas Hoult of Mad Max: Fury Road is taking on the titular role. The upcoming vampire movie also takes on a horror-comedy tone. Cage revealed he’s very excited about the humor of the piece. He wants to work his hardest to hit the bullseye and get the tone just right.

As an enormous fan of the book and character, Cage did a lot of research for his new performance. In preparation for ‘Renfield’, he went back and watched some of the most famous performances of Dracula in past vampire movies. One, in particular, is Gary Oldman’s performance in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 version. Cage went on to praise his uncle, Francis Ford Coppola’s film. He went on to say “Oldman’s performance” was “so sumptuous” and calling “every frame a work of art.”
