The official Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl Twitter page announced earlier today that a free update is set to come to the game very soon. The update will include the addition of alternate costumes for the various playable characters, the first of which was shown to be a costume for Spongebob Squarepants based on the hat he wears in the episode “One Krabs Trash.”

Although Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has garnered mostly positive reviews since release, even being nominated for Best Fighting Game for the 2021 Game Awards, many fans of the game have cited the lack of certain content and features when compared to other platform fighters, such as the Super Smash Bros. series and the recently announced Warner Bros Games title MultiVersus.
One of the most prominently discussed is the lack of voice acting in the game, though the development team has stated previously that it is working towards adding these features in future updates, alongside additional DLC. It seems this upcoming update is the first taste of what is to come.
Recently, Thaddeus Crews, character designer and programmer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, has further reassured fans that the game is being actively worked on and opened up about the development cycle to give fans an idea of what happened and what is to come.
“It was a rough launch and we are playing a lot of catch-up, but I’m beyond thankful and thrilled to say that there’s absolutely no threat or concern of us getting cut off in any way”, he explained via a Discord as seen in a post on the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl subreddit.
