There has been a wide variety of goals and dekes that have been repeated and refined over the years, but there has been one move that has stood out and turned heads like none other in modern hockey: whether you call it The Svechnikov or The Michigan, this lacrosse-style behind the net move has become the new move that shocks, amazes, and creates controversy no matter where it shows up. You, basically, while behind the net and on one side of the net, scoop the puck up in the blade of your stick like you would a lacrosse ball in a lacrosse game and, using the momentum from moving your stick around, keep it there and bring the stick around to the other side of the goal and slap the stick against the opposite bar, slamming the puck into the net in a way that’s almost unfair to the goalie.

When it was first introduced in NHL 21, fans were afraid that the move could be abused in such a way that it was almost certainly a guaranteed way to score, but the move was initially impossible to pull off in real-time. Since then, the move has been improved and been made only a little easier to pull off.

Pulling a standout move like The Michigan in NHL 21 may have been made a little easier. However, it’s still relatively difficult to pull off successfully and is fairly easy to defend against, so one must be careful before pulling something like this off.

While positioned behind the net, move the puck to your forehand using the right analog stick, press and hold L1 on the PS4 or LB on the Xbox One, press in the right analog stick, and then, while the right analog stick is pressed in, swing the right analog stick down and then to the right. It’s one of those moves that you really don’t want to pull off in real-time until you get really good at it as you won’t have many opportunities to perform it, and when you get an opportunity, you won’t have much time to nail it. It’s practically useless in online play, from my experience, but it’s a very enjoyable move to nail in single-player modes.
