According to rumors, the upcoming title of the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be named Assassin’s Creed Rift and set in Baghdad. This was reported by Jason Schreier, a journalist for Bloomberg, in response to a Reddit post. Contrary to previous claims, he stated that the next game in the series wouldn’t take place in Aztec Empire.

Assassin’s Creed Rift Will Be Set in Baghdad

Ubisoft will announce the upcoming games of the Assassin’s Creed series on September 10. This will coincide with the series’ 15th anniversary and the Ubisoft Forward event. However, there’s no need to wait until then to learn more about the upcoming title, codenamed Assassin’s Creed Rift, which has been the subject of several speculations.

Last week, there were rumors that a new Assassin’s Creed game would take place in the Aztec Empire, but Schreier said he didn’t know anything about such a game. Conversely, he affirmed that Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, is the setting for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game. Basim, a character initially seen in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is anticipated to appear in the next Baghdad game. According to the game’s story, Basim was born in the Abbasid Caliphate, and Baghdad served as the caliphate’s capital. Also, rumors indicate that it will be a more compact, stealth-focused title.

The franchise has always taken us on adventures to other nations and eras. While speculations suggested that the upcoming game would take place among the Aztecs, journalist Jason Schreier comes to refute this. Jason Schreier claimed that two new games are coming, and neither of them will be set in Aztec:

“After that will be AC Infinity, and while that’s going to include a bunch of different games/experiences/biomes/whatever you want to call them, I’ve heard about the main two and neither of them are Aztec.”

We’ll have to wait until Ubisoft Forward in September to learn more about Infinity and Rift, which are still pretty unclear projects. So take your seats from now!
