The last year has been a pretty interesting one for X-Men fans. It’s been a few years now since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and the X-Men along with it. Seeing as the MCU is still barely starting its fourth phase, it seems they won’t be revived for some time. That said, there has been no shortage of action in the Marvel comics. For example, in April of last year, we were shown our first look at a new X-Men line-up. But earlier today, we were shown something much more impressive. The first look at the upcoming X-Men Red comic, which will focus on a planet full of only mutants!
X-Men Red: With Only Mutants, Where to Next?
If you haven’t kept up with X-Men comics recently, let me give you the basics of the X-Men Red comic. In Planet-Size X-Men last year, Magneto brought together some of the strongest Omega Level mutants so they could terraform Mars. With it terraformed, mutants have come to the planet, now renamed Arakko, to settle away from the prejudices of humanity on Earth. But with their common enemy gone, it seems the mutants themselves will become divided as they try to get used to their new society. Storm is expected to play a key role, as she was one of the central Omega mutants that helped and was always a titan in the X-Men ranks.
The series will be written by Al Ewing, who made the infamous Immortal Hulk series. He plans to delve into what a mutant-centric society will be like and how the red planet’s fate ties into that. Also, Magneto and fan-favorite Sunspot will appear often. The story itself seems strong and will hopefully live up to expectations. In the meantime, we have the new X-Men animated series to look forward to.
