SpongeBob and Patrick search for a snail-napped Gary in the new SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run trailer. The movie will be directed by Tim Hill, writer for the cartoon, and will be the first full CGI SpongeBob movie. Here is the synopsis courtesy of Deadline:
The trailer features an origin story for our favorite sponge and Gary, the lost city of Atlantis, gambling, and no other than Keanu Reeves. Reeves has been in the spotlight lately for his portrayal of John Wick and his involvement in the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. His next role will be Sage, who is made out of sage and is a sage, in the movie. He will most likely be a guide for our underwater friends as they search for Gary.
David Hasselhoff once shot Spongebob and Patrick out of his pecks and now Reeves will be following them around as a tumbleweed. They really know how to meet celebrities. Take a look at tumbleweed Reeves below.
The voice cast will include no other than Tom Kenny as Spongebob and Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick. It will be produced by Ryan Harris with Stephen Hillenburg as the executive producer.
You can go on a “huge journey to find a tiny friend” (at least according to the movie poster) when it releases on May 22, 2020. In other news, the classic video game SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom is getting a remake and several SpongeBob spinoffs are in development at Nickelodeon.
