Ready for more adventure of Goku and his friends again (relatively) soon? Apparently, Toei Animation Europe’s website accidentally leaks that a new Dragon Ball Super movie will be released sometime in 2022, according to a popular Dragon Ball fansite Kanzenshuu. The announcement was only visible through Similar Articles functionality and noted that the official reveal will be dropped on “Goku Day”, or May 9, tomorrow.
Why May 9 equals Goku Day, you asks? It’s simply a wordplay on Goku; go is Japanese for five and kuu/kyuu is nine. The Japanese really love their puns. The article was also visible on Google cache for some time but it has since been removed.
Kanzenshuu also managed to save a quote from Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama on the reveal. Here’s what he has to say about the upcoming Dragon Ball Super movie.
The fansite added that the head of Shueisha’s Dragon Ball-related think tank division — aptly named Dragon Ball Room — Akio Iyoku has actually teased about the new Dragon Ball Super movie project back in June 2019. He was quoted in a bonus booklet of the home video release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
