The Scream movies have always seen its protagonist and the main target for psycho killers, Sidney Prescott, in the forefront. Unfortunately for long-time fans, Neve Campbell will not return for Scream 6, which aims for theaters on March 31, 2023.
Initially, it started as a rumor circulating online that fans would not see the scream queen duke it out with another masked killer. She confirmed the news today and spoke about how it came down to not being able to reach a deal that matched “the value” that she “brought to the franchise.”
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on,” Neve Campbell said on Scream 6. “To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
Scream 6 Says Goodbye Neve Campbell, Hello Dermot Mulroney
Scream 6 may not see Neve Campbell, but it will see other returning stars. Courtney Cox, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere (Scream 4), Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets), and Mason Gooding (Booksmart). Newcomer Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding) will join them. The latest entry’s directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are also set to return.
Ortega recently teased fans with a hint that we will possibly get the “most aggressive” Ghostface yet, so expect plenty of brutal deaths and gore when these survivors must survive another killing spree next spring.
