A Legendary Investment

Bridging the gap between traditional sports and esports is a tough thing to do any day of the week. But that’s just what ReKTGlobal has managed to do with their latest investor. Rudy Gobert-Bourgarel is a french professional basketball player who plays center on the Utah Jazz. The NBA isn’t the only place he plays however, it is the most viewed. He also plays for the French National Basketball team in international competitions. Not their only famous investor, ReKTGlobal has signed musicians and music producers. Along for the ride is their pro esports organization Rogue. Not to mention EDM star Steve Aoki, billboard toppers Imagine Dragons, DJ Nicky Romero, and Latin producer Tainy. Rounding out their star-studded investors like this has allowed ReKTGlobal to push ahead of other companies.

But Why Rudy? Why the NBA?

In a statement, the Co-founder of ReKTGlobal, Amish Shah called Rudy “A phenomenal fit” for the company. This seems to exemplify how the company has taken to its partnerships in the past. Previous investors have been taken very seriously and considered worth more than their star power. Sure, having all of these famous investors helps the business, but ReKTGlobal is more concerned about the investors caring. Rudy is a longtime gamer and has been looking for an opportunity to get into esports. His back-to-back wins of the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award shows his sportsmanship. But Rudy says both his French team as well as the Jazz have been aware of his gaming for years. Gobert smashed the single-season record for slam dunks in 2019 with 306, but ReKTGlobal wants him for his gaming experience.

Rudy has said he’s used games as a way to unwind for years in a statement. As well as a method to keep up with friends while on tour with the NBA. Expressing a desire to get involved in esports for years, he’s finally managed to do so with this investment. This means that the ReKTGlobal team has managed to make a lasting connection. Partnerships like this could lead to a deeper connection between mainstream sports and esports. If more mainstream players start getting into esports, it could even legitimize them to mainstream fans. No matter what the reasons, this investment looks to be good for gaming in general, but especially for ReKTGlobal.
