Happy National Cinema Day! Movie theaters all over North America, from AMC, Regal, and more, are selling tickets today for just $3 each! What a steal, depending on what movies are currently screening in theaters. Apparently, this celebration meant to spike admissions wasn’t overly advertised to the public and movie-going fans as Labor Day weekend Box Office is looking pretty slow. So much so that the re-released version of Sony and Marvel’s December 2021 hit Spider-Man: No Way Home – More Fun Stuff is projected to return to the top of the box office charts from this weekend alone.
National Cinema Day brings Spider-Man: No Way Home Re-Release
Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man film hit theaters around nine months ago, and its enormous debut led the movie to garner over 1.9 billion worldwide and over $800 million domestically. The box office boomer Spider-Man: No Way Home is finding its way back in theaters this weekend with an Extended Cut, aka the “More Fun Stuff Version,” that brings an additional 11 minutes of unseen footage to the already 2-and-a-half-hour movie running time. The Extended Cut was released in 3935 theaters over this four-day holiday weekend and is hoping to bring in repeat fans for National Cinema Day.
Although this weekend seems lackluster for new releases such as Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul (Sterling K. Brown, Regina Hall), big blockbuster hits from this past year seem to be eating the cake. Of course, Spider-Man: No Way Home’s extended version will gross with hardcore fans, but this film wasn’t even a summer blockbuster. One film that hasn’t stopped speeding since its release on Memorial Day weekend is the long-awaited Top Gun sequel Top Gun: Maverick, which is very close to reaching its $700 million mark.
