Sorry Paramount fans, the bad news just keeps on coming. In a highly controversial move, Paramount has announced that a whole gaggle of upcoming films is at this moment delayed. To those paying attention, this seems like par for the course. Multiple Paramount films were postponed in the last year, popular or not. One example is the delays of Mission: Impossible 7 and Top Gun: Maverick. Funnily enough, Mission: Impossible 7 is once again one of the films getting delayed here. Beyond that, we know A Quiet Place 3, an animated Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles movie, and an animated Transformers movie are also delayed. It seems that all their big hitters are taking the bench.
Are Paramount Delays Creating Impossible Odds?
Mission: Impossible is one of Paramount’s most widely successful series. That said, the pandemic has forced some significant issues for the company. Due to the incredible costs of long-term marketing, studios are pushing back films left and right. This seems to be due to the lingering coronavirus issues. With fewer people attending theater premieres than ever before, studios don’t want to waste a perfectly good movie on bad odds. Hence why both MI7 and MI8 have been simultaneously delayed.
As a result of these contentious delays, Paramount may be facing a major hit in the next couple of years. The next major film to arrive will be the next Transformers film. Even then, it won’t come until mid-2023. A Quiet Place 3 isn’t expected until late 2023. And the next phases of their other properties aren’t likely to take flight until 2024. With so little on the docket, they may be reaping what they sow soon enough. Of course, they may end up just fine thanks to the launch and potential success of Paramount+ deals. Whether these films end up being satisfactory in the end is another question entirely.
